Welcome to the SWA Web Site

The Schenectady Wargamers Association, Inc. (SWA) is an Adventure Gaming club serving the Capital District area (Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Saratoga) of upstate New York since 1974. We support all forms of adventure gaming: Role Play * Board Games * Miniatures * Card Games (Collectible and otherwise) * Computer Games * Live-Action / Interactive Literature * and whatever else you've got. We sponsor a three-day convention every year, Council of Five Nations, usually early October or late September. We also sponsor a one-day Game-a-thon every month. Even if you're not local, we've got news and content representing what's going on with the Adventure Gaming hobby all around the Northeastern United States. Welcome to our web site! Feel free to stay and browse around for awhile. If you have any questions, please contact us and ask.

D&D Designer Mike Mearls Teaches at the Space-Crime Continuum!

NORTHAMPTON, MA -- On Sunday, October 12 at 2 p.m., professional game designer Mike Mearls will visit the Space-Crime Continuum bookstore to lead a seminar on designing roleplaying games.

Titled "Under the Hood", the seminar explores the hidden details of the Dungeons and Dragons roleplaying game. Mearls will show seminar participants the "rules behind the rules" -- what makes D&D different from other game systems, how spells determine what characters and monsters can do, and how to evaluate new rules that you or other designers have created.

Would you like the opportunity to save some money when attending SWA events?
If so, please read on...

We're happy to formally announce the roll-out of the new "SWA as your Home

Our goal is to have the SWA web site be the hub of
a virtual community of gamers not only in the Capital District, but around
the Northeastern United States. For this to work, we need you to visit
the site often, and to use the functionality to its fullest. As encouragement,
we're offering the following incentive program:

If you set the "Home" page of your web browser to the main page of our
site: www.swa-gaming.org, we will give you a $1 per day discount to SWA Game-a-thons
and Council of Five Nations.

Please report website technical problems

As the number of new users has grown over the past couple of weeks, we've started to get a few bug reports. This is good! We need you folks to tell us what problems need to be fixed.

The most serious report so far related to browser software compatibility. This site uses advanced html features. We strongly suggest you use the most recent version of your browser software. Users have reported problems with Netscape and Internet Explorer versions earlier than 5.0.

Please continue to report problems as you encounter them. You can either use the Feedback module or email us at webmaster@swa-gaming.org.

New SWA Web Page

We're up and running! After what seems like years (well, I guess it really was years...), the SWA has implemented a fully-functional, interactive website. Many thanks to Nick Codignotto for his effort and technical expertise, and to the folks behind PHP-Nuke for the free, open-source code that makes all this possible. Why don't you create a user account and play around with all the cool fuctionality? Feedback is warmly appreciated.
