Help

Last Update: May 17, 2003
There's a lot of neat functionality with our PHP-Nuke-driven web site. This Help page will try to give you an overview of things so you can get the most out of your browsing experience here. Let's take the home page and discuss each item as you proceed down the left side.

MODULES BOX

This is where a lot of the neat, interactive stuff can be found. Several of these are so important that they're duplicated across the top of most screens (inside the tan-shaded bar).
Home
Clicking this takes you back to the Home page.
AvantGo
If you're accessing the site from your PDA or web-enabled phone, you'll probably want to point your microbrowser here. The most recent News posts are duplicated in a stripped-down, graphics-lite format. Click on the link now and you'll see what we mean.
Downloads
Here is where you can click to download files from our server. We'll eventually have stuff like campaign handouts, maps, PDFs of forms for Council and Game-a-thon, and lots more. We encourage you to submit files for us to make available to the community. Please note your submissions are not immediately available; they need to go through an approval check first. We've got several members empowered to approve submissions, so hopefully lag times will be reasonable. Please keep in mind we're a group of hobby volunteers; we can only spend so much time online.
FAQ
We'll publish answers to questions you submit to us. You've seen FAQs before...
Feedback
A simple module for you to quickly send a message to the webmaster. Web site problems? Suggestions? Requests for new News Topics, or some other category? We'd love to hear all your praise and constructive criticisms.
Forums
This is our Discussion Forum module. It's got a lot of functionality, so much that we're not that experienced with it yet. You must have an account and sign in to use this feature.
Help
The do*****ent you're reading right now.
Journal
All you registered members can set up your own Journals. This is an area where you can write pretty-much whatever you want. Please keep it clean and inoffensive; we're a family organization. We have the right and ability to edit/purge your material; please don't make us use it.
Members List
A list of all registered members. From here you can send private messages and see account profiles. You can also see how active each particular member has been with posting News items, Reviews, etc.
News - Submit Some
Here is where you submit news stories. They appear down the middle of the Home page. We've got things set up so the most recent ten are displayed, with the next twenty older stories still accessible in the "Old Articles" box on the right side of the Home page. We need your submissions to continually have new content for the web site! Please don't rely on a few of us for all the content - this has to be a community effort to work. Please note your submissions are not immediately available; they need to go through an approval check first. We've got several members empowered to approve submissions, so hopefully lag times will be reasonable. Please keep in mind we're a group of hobby volunteers; we can only spend so much time online.
News Topics
You can flag your News stories as being part of a certain topic group, like "Games Workshop Games" or "Role-Play Games". You'll then see each story highlighted with a certain graphic icon. You can also click here to see all stories submitted under that Topic. This can make finding info much quicker. If you've got a suggestion for a new News Topic, please let us know.
Private Messages
You can send messages to other registered members. You need to be registered to use this feature. Please keep it clean and inoffensive.
Recommend Us
Here you can enter the email address of a friend and an automatic message will be sent out with our Home URL link. A fast, efficient way for you to help us spread the word about this site.
Reviews
Here is where you can post reviews about stuff: games, movies, whatever you think would appeal to the SWA community. Of course, you can also read other people's reviews. Once again, your submissions need to go through the quick review process.
Search
Use key words to search the site for material of interest to you.
Statistics
You can see for yourself things like how many hits we're receiving, and a whole lot of other things that only the most hardcore tech-head would care about.
Stories Archive
You can see here all the past News Stories by month.
Surveys
View results on all the past and present surveys we've posted.
Top 10
This is a shortcut to things like the "10 most read stories", "10 most active authors", and stuff like that.
Web Links
A collection of links to other web sites we think are worth checking out. We encourage you to submit your own for this list. As with other member submissions, there is the quick review requirement.
Your Account
This is the screen you'll see first when you sign on with your username and password. You can do a bunch of neat things here.
  • Enter/Update your personal information
  • If you've got skill with HTML, you can set up your own Personal Menu box. It will appear below the SWA Links box.
  • See summaries of material you've submitted (News stories, Comments, etc.)
  • Check your Private Messages
  • Make entries to your personal Journal
  • Don't like our earth tone colors? Change the look of the website by changing the "Theme". The really cool thing is that it only affects your login; it doesn't affect other visitors.
SWA LINKS BOX These are pretty self-explanatory. Lots of information on the SWA, Council of Five Nations, upcoming Game-a-thons, etc. WEB RING MEMBERSHIPS We'd like to increase readership by joining some relevant webrings. We'll get to this soon. Please send us ideas for webrings you think would be appropriate. More Coming This Help file is a work in progress. Please let us know what you think we need to explain better.
