There is the Tactical Combat Series (or is it a more zoomed out scale than you intended?)

New comment on Video Cyrils Brettspiele - Table Talk Edition (eng.) - Cacao Cocolatl! - TK13

I think your review is getting at an inherent problem with the plethora of expansions and modules tied to Cacao: the base game morphs into something entirely different depending upon what all you use and don't use.

And the problem is made worse by all the mini-expansions and not so mini-expansions that aren't even in Chocolatl. Thus, there are additional storage huts. There are volcanoes. There is the Big Market and the Golden Temple. And more.

The game is collapsing under its bloated weight of expansions. What was simple and fun becomes a chore to decide even which pieces to use in each game. Which can be a huge pain depending upon whether you are playing just 2-player or at higher player counts.

Thanos ability to "rescue" bystanders from other players and then K.O. them to power his own cards is my absolute favourite.

You're aware that you can browse through their entire catalog at chessex.com, yes? Taste here is remarkably subjective.

Just to clarify, I was in the hallway, when the ghoul priest spawned in the hallway, due to completing act 2.

If you move into a room with an enemy, it automatically engages you, right? I assumed that it worked in reverse, so if an enemy spawns in your location, it will also be automatically engaged? Being able to move out before being engaged would have made things a bit easier.

Exactly what happens depends on how the enemy spawned and whether it has a spawn command.

If you draw an enemy from the encounter deck and it has a spawn instruction then it spawns in the location indicated.

Any time an enemy enters a location where there are investigators it engages with one of them. If there are multiple investigators then the enemy's prey instruction determines which it engages.

If you draw an enemy from the encounter deck and it doesn't have a spawn instruction then it spawns engaged with you.

Also does the act advance a specific time, or can it happen at any point in the investigators round? Sorry for hijacking the thread!
In general, yes. However some acts have restrictions on when and how they advance, so read each new act carefully.

That's a good tip....thanks! Just one thing, What is with the Special Performance cards? Do they completely replace the cards from the main game? or what?

Yes. They have a neutral trick marker printed on them, that you can use to create trick links, just like if they belonged to an opponent. They're just there to provide extra opportunities to create links.

I must have totally missed this. What is the variant where the difference between moon boosts and other slingshots is relevant?

According to Phil: https://boardgamegeek.com/article/25548971#25548971

"The cresent-shaped "moon boosts" are identical to flybys, except for the optional Hazardous flyby rules."

New comment on GeekList Another Kickstarter Journey Unfolds [CAN]

Board Game Geek - Marketplace - Sun, 04/09/2017 - 08:24

I enjoyed the read, thanks. I like when people actually make the effort to review what the game costs post-KS and reflect on whether or not what they paid was worth it. So many "my KS experience" lists just focus on whether or not the person enjoyed the game without any other context.

Friendly advice: I'm sure Rahdo himself would tell you that he's not here to tell you to buy a game or not but show you how it's played so you can decided for yourself. If you're buying a game simply b/c some reviewer liked it, you're not doing enough due diligence.

And here's my list BTW: Contemplating My Kickstarter Navel

Not an expert and may be incorrect:

A BB that is not in the battle hex cannot commit its attack value to the battle.

A BB that remains with a CV attacking at range may also not take hits? CVs are bigly important and it's sometimes beneficial to shield them with other ships that can absorb hits.

A BB that is not in the battle hex cannot contribute toward a potential bombardment drm for ground combat.

I can't think of many reasons why one would activate a BB for battle but not use it at the battle hex. I m very interested to hear what the experts say.

I don't see why not, but they might not be as "useful" outside their ordinary terrain. I haven't played Wrath of the Righteous at all, so I don't know. Also, one of the characters is Seoni, which is already in Runelords, but I don't know if she's identical.

Unless they are exhausted, enemies never stay unengaged when at the same location with an investigator, they would engage immediately.

Normally act can only be advanced in an action window during the investigator phase. Second? act of first tutorial scenario has special exception/instruction to do it at end of round instead (This saves you from ghoul priest attack for a round. Which is fair enough since it dumps him on your face).
