Hotel Options for Council of Five Nations XXXI (2008)

Hotel Options

For Council of Five Nations XXXI (2008)

If you’re coming in from out of town, we suggest the following accommodations.  Please note how the first two are a very convenient walking distance, while the second two are approximately half a mile away (an easy walk through downtown Schenectady, if you’re so inclined).  Please also note the rates listed are based strictly on availability.

The Parker InnParker Inn view from State Street
434 State Street
Schenectady NY, 12305
Reservations: (518) 688-1001
www.parkerinn.com
This hotel is right next door to Proctors, and is thus the most convenient place to stay.  The Council room rate is $114 per night, plus taxes. This includes a Continental breakfast each morning.  Please mention the "Schenectady Wargamers Association" to get this discounted con rate. You will need to reserve your room by phone to get the $114 rate: you cannot book it over the internet. The Parker Inn is only holding less than ten rooms for us at this rate, so please book quickly.

Also, one Council attendee reports that has already used his active Military status to get a rate of $105 per night.  If you're entitled to this rate, by all means, save yourself a few bucks!

The Hampton InnHampton Inn view from State Street
450 State Street
Schenectady NY, 12305
Reservations: (518) 377-4500
www.hamptonschenectady.com
This hotel is right up the block from Proctors, about a one-minute walk.  The Council room rate is $129 per night, plus taxes.  This includes a continental breakfast.  They also have a private parking lot for their guests, so this is an extra convenience for our out-of-town attendees.  The Hampton Inn is the newest hotel on this list; it was completed just a couple of months before last years Council.

If you'd like to reserve rooms online, they've set up a special Council web link for us:
http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/groups/personalized/ALBSYHX-COU-20081010/index.jhtml

The Hampton Inn says they will only hold the rooms at the $129 Council rate until September 17th, so book soon.

Days Inn SchenectadyDays Inn view from Nott Terrace
167 Nott Terrace
Schenectady, NY 12308
(518) 370-3297
www.the.daysinn.com/schenectady05497
This hotel is about a half-mile from Proctors. The Days Inn is our suggested economy option.  We see rates ranging from $68-$86 per night, plus taxes, on  various internet travel sites.  There are other hotels close to Proctors in this price range (several on State Street), but we suggest you stay away from those.  The Days Inn offers free parking.

Holiday Inn Schenectady
100 Nott Terrace
Schenectady, NY 12308
(518) 393-4141
www.hischenectady.com
This hotel is also about a half-mile from Proctors, directly across the street from the Days Inn.  They have plenty of free parking, and a shuttle van that can take you back-and-forth to Proctors, upon request.  Please note that hotel guests needing airport pickup/dropoff have priority.  The van also runs only until 10:30 PM.

The salesperson at the Holiday Inn wanted us to sign a contract with unfavorable clauses, so there is no official Council rate.  A quick web search on their web site (link above) shows a rate on Council weekend of $153 per night.  This is the same rate listed on Travelocity.com.  You're much better off staying at the Hampton Inn and being within easy walking distance, but that's just our opinion.
